Murton Park - Year 6
Year 6 Visit to Murton Park – Thursday 23rd September 2021
As part of our history learning about the Vikings, Year 6 will be visiting Murton Park, where they will participate in a workshop. During the workshop, they will be taken to the settlement to meet the rest of the community – and prove to the Lord or Lady of the village that they have the necessary skills to be an asset! Working in groups the children will learn about farming and food in the Viking age, pottery, and household tasks. They will have to take their turns on guard duty and learn how to defend the village from attack. Children will leave the day with a good idea of what it was like in Viking times and be able to compare this period in history to others they have learned about and their experiences of life today.
We require children to wear their school uniform for this visit. They will need sensible footwear and a waterproof/warm coat. The need for hats, sun cream, gloves etc. will be all dependent on the weather – please judge this accordingly.
The children will travel by coach. In order that we can leave school by 9am, please ensure that your child arrives promptly in school by 8:45am on this morning. We will be leaving Murton Park at 3pm and so would hope to be back at school for 4pm. Any delay updates will be posted on Twitter for your convenience.
Children will require a packed lunch for the trip; should you wish to order one from the kitchen please complete and return the packed lunch order form which has been sent home today. This needs to be returned by Friday 17th September. Children will also need to bring a bottle of water.
We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £24.95 per child to cover the cost of the trip. Please consent and pay via Parentpay by Friday 17th September 2021. Children entitled to free school meals will have this cost met centrally. If your child is entitled to free school meals, please email email@example.com to confirm consent. If you have questions about meeting the cost of the trip, please contact the office.
Finally, we are looking for 2 parent helpers for this trip. If you are able, and would like to accompany us, please could you speak to one of us on the door or send us an email with your offer of help – thank you.
